A look at the build - Live Edge Cherry Slab...
John Andrè Oliveira descibes what it takes to prep a live edge slab.
John Oliveira began woodworking with his father who was a rough carpenter. He quickly became fascinated with fine woodworking and developed a passion for the art of furniture making and woodworking. John later apprenticed at one of the most prestigious cabinetry companies on the continent and quickly excelled at the trade. John is now a licensed Red Seal Cabinetmaker and holds a Bachelors degree in Technological Education (Construction Technology - Cabinetry) and a Degree in Sociology (with a minor in Human Resource Management) John is an Ontario Certified Teacher in construction Technology.
Becoming self employed by the age of 23 John prides himself on being someone who promotes the life of a tradesperson through his story and passion for building beautiful conversation pieces explaining that, "wood only dies if we allow it to... To me, wood is always alive but people let it die. As it is commonly interpreted through philosophy, "a life without purpose (unexamined) is not worth living" The artist; the craftsman, must find new ways to bring wood to life and through passion and creativity we find ways to use wood as an art form and through this art we give that wood a new purpose; a new life" - John Andrè Oliveira.
John has teaching experience with the WoodLINKS North american Recognized Secondary School Woodworking Initiative and has even run woodworking tutorials at the Ryerson School of Interior Design (RSID) as a Woodworking Technician Volunteer.
